Malbec
Originally from France, this red wine has become the signature wine of Argentina. Malbecs are also produced in the northwest United States and Chile, and continue to be produced in South West France.
Due to the intense flavor of Malbec grapes, they were often used strictly in blends with grapes such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon to produce the popular French Bordeaux. In France, it’s still primarily used as a blending grape, but it’s achieved some serious acclaim in sunny Argentina where it’s produced as a varietal.
Malbec wines are medium to full-bodied and display an inky, dark color. Like many red wines, they are pair well with red meat and spicy Cajun or Indian food, but this intense wine can overpower lighter meals.
Suggested food pairings: Red meat Mexican Indian Italian with red sauce
